Almost half of the imported iron ore and the entire Mexican products, without exception, received in the first half of 2013 in the Chinese port Habei turned out to be of poor quality. This was announced today by the inspection for the acceptance of goods and quarantine procedures in the port of Hebei.
The inspection studied samples of 405 parts of iron ore totaling 2 billion 790 million US dollars, which is approximately 6 percent of the total exports of iron ore raw materials to China in January - June 2013. 178 parties or 44 percent of cargo were recognized as not corresponding to the declared quality.
According to Chinese officials, the ore to the port of Habey enters mainly from 24 exporting countries, including Australia, Brazil and India. At the same time, all Mexican imports, without exception, is not recognized as high -quality, but 90 percent of the Brazilian ore contains a large amount of harmful impurities and water, which negatively affects the environment of the port and is a danger to shipping.
The Chinese Metallurgical Association said that the quality of imported iron ore is getting worse and worse. High prices with dubious quality of raw materials inflate costs and reduce the profitability of metallurgical production.
According to the latest statistical data, China imported 457 million tons of iron ore in the first 7 months from the beginning of 2013, which is 8 percent more than in the APPG-2012.
