Turkish exporters said that the newly begun investigation that Turkish manufacturers of steel pipes sold them at extremely low prices in the United States is unfair and ignores a similar situation with developed markets.
The US Department of Trade in July 2013 launched one of its largest trade investigations in recent years on charges of manufacturers of Turkey, India and other seven countries that they are sold in the United States at unfairly low prices.
However, in the written statement of the chairman of the Turkish Association of Exporters, Namık Ekinci became: “Why do other suppliers of steel pipes in the United States, such as Germany, Canada and Japan, have been ignored, and have all the blame for Turkey? We believe that this study is erroneous and politically motivated. Turkish manufacturers will certainly be justified after the investigation is completed. "
In accordance with the complaints filed by nine American companies, the US Commission on International Trade collected information to further promote the investigation. The Ministry of Trade is expected to make preliminary recommendations regarding the amount of compensation duty until September 25th.
South Korea, which is the largest seller of oil pipes in the United States, is also in the field of view of the investigation. In relation to Turkey and India, American manufacturers are looking for additional compensation duties to compensate for the alleged state subsidies in these countries. Türkiye denies any subsidies or dumping accusations.
Türkiye was faced with a similar situation in the EU last year, but the investigation was terminated after European manufacturers recalled their complaints in March. Mr. Ekinci said that "we expect these accusations in the United States will be removed like the previous ones when we were right."
Türkiye considers the investigation on the import of steel pipes politically motivated
