According to preliminary data from the American Institute of Choon and Steel (AISI), the United States imported 2 million 761 thousand tons of steel in September 2013, including 2 million 117 thousand tons of metal rolling, which is 4.1 percent less than in August. In an annual comparison, the imports of steel decreased by 7 percent, and the metal rolling is 6 percent.
AISI predicts that according to the results of 2013, steel imports in the United States will amount to 31 million 900 thousand tons of which 24 million 900 thousand tons will occur in the finished rental. This is, respectively, 5 and 4 percent lower than in 2012.
The share of imports in the market of finished metal rolling in the United States in September was 23 percent, which corresponds to the indicators of the beginning of the current year. In the structure of imports by 60 percent, the supply of sheet steel increased, 47 percent - supply of reinforcement and circles, by 35 percent - white tin and 16 percent of rolled steel.
The largest importers in the United States were in September 2013 offshore companies in Asia and Europe. South Korea reduced imports by 15 percent, to 317 thousand tons, China increased by 77 percent, to 194 thousand tons, Japan increased supply to the United States by 4 percent, to 191 thousand tons, by 24 percent, to 115 thousand tons and the Netherlands - by 24 percent, up to 108 thousand tons.
