Representatives of the steel industry of Pakistan last week turned to the government with an urgent request to withdraw a four percentage tax on domestic sales in relation to metal products. The delegation of metallurgists was headed by the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad Shaban Khalid.
Mr. Khalid emphasized that Pakistani metallurgy provides 80 percent of the needs in the domestic market, but high taxes and tariffs for electricity make it uncompetitive. "The tax policy should contribute to the growth of the steel industry, and not create additional obstacles," he said.
Shaban Khalid informed the chief of the Pakistan Taxi Commission Shirat Ran about the problems of which the metallurgical industry faces and asked to take measures to urgently correct the situation.
