The lobbying group of South Korean manufacturers began to apply to the body representing the metallurgists of the six countries of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. South Korean companies are trying to weaken the adjustment mechanisms developed by ASEAN members directed against the import of steel products.
As of November, 15 cases were recorded in which the import of steel products and control of measuring products was among which digital anemometer, South Korean manufacturers were tested and restrictions on the part of the six members Associations of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) - Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore.
In negotiations with the officials of the ASEAN metallurgical council, which were in Jakarta in Indonesia, Mr. Il-Khovan, deputy chairman of Korea Iron & Steel Association, expressed concern about the latest normative measures against the import of South Korean steel products.
The South Korean side emphasized the need for settlement of trade friction based on civilized principles of dialogue. In addition, Korea Iron & Steel Association stated that it would actively resolve issues of regulatory measures for six countries by revising them in accordance with international laws in order to confirm their legitimacy.
The combined export of local manufacturers in Southeast Asia reached 5.1 billion US dollars during the first 10 months of this year, which is 23 percent of their total export.
Hard competition from other manufacturers and a long economic decline forced the countries of Southeast Asia to tighten the rules for importing iron and steel.
