The Cabinet of Ministers is trying to ensure the effective and stable functioning of the main sectors of the Ukrainian economy, which is undergoing far from the best times. In order to maintain domestic manufacturers, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade turned to the government with a proposal to continue the practice of quoting of coking coal imports with the exception of energy brands, while it was proposed to increase the quota from 11.2 to 14 million tons from 2014, the media reported with reference to government sources.
The government discussed the problem of restrictions on coal imports in early 2013, the reason for this was an excess of these products in the domestic market.
The interdepartmental commission for the distribution of quotas on goods to be licensed said that an increase in quota is a prerequisite for satisfying the needs of Ukrainian metallurgists and to ensure stable operation of the entire domestic metallurgical industry.
According to experts of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, the restrictions on the import of coking coal this year have positively affected the development of the basic sectors of the Ukrainian economy, despite the slight increase in the consumption of the metallurgical enterprises of the gas group of the gas group before the quotas were finally approved in June of this year.
In the annual calculus, the total consumption of coking coal mined in Ukrainian mines increased by 40% and in the second quarter of 2013 amounted to 241, 4 thousand tons.
This year, quotas for the import of coking coal allowed state coal enterprises for the 5 months of this year to allocate an additional 482.8 thousand tons of their products, including coal of the gas group - approximately 193.3 thousand tons.
Ukraine today is one of the world leaders of the coal industry, the country owns 4% of the world's reserves of "black gold". Thanks to this, Ukraine provides internal energy resources, both the population and the economy. Over the past ten years, Ukraine has been mined from 72.2 to 85.9 million tons of coal of various brands annually.
In 2014, coal imports in Ukraine can be increased to 14 million tons
