The Korean steel industry is under pressure from a series of anti -dumping claims filed against the main export goods in the North American market. Korean metallurgists could not intimidate such traditional measures to protect trade in the past, but everything can be otherwise this time that the decline in the global market still does not give any reason for optimism next year.
In July, the Consortium of American manufacturers of Steel "filed a petition against 10 Korean steel manufacturers who achieve anti -dumping reliefs for the products of the oil industry. The main goal is special steel pipes used for drilling oil wells.
As of last year, Korean companies exported 98.5 percent of their OCTG pipes in the United States, whose share in the local market reached 24.2 percent, in accordance with the data
Korean International Trade Association. The representative of Hyundai Hysco, the largest Octg exporter, said that "even if the US Department of Trade decided to introduce anti -dumping duties, this will not have a significant impact on our export of steel products."
Optimism, however, was diminished when it came to a decrease in the actual number of sales in the United States, while production capacities in Korea continues to grow, despite the sluggish global demand. The export of Korea’s metal products in the United States in September decreased by 10.2 percent compared to the previous year, and this was largely due to 30.7 percent of OCTG sales, in accordance with the data of the Korea Trade Agency.
