Posco officially opened a 200 megavatt power plant as part of the Tsilegon metallurgical complex, Banten. The plant, built and controlled by PT Krakatau Posco Energy, uses the ejected gas, which is a by -product of the production process of an integrated steel plant, which officially began its work in December.
The power plant, the construction of which began in September 2011, is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. “Posco Energy will take an active part in the development of such projects in Southeast Asia and expand its global presence,” said the chief executive director of Posco Energy Chang Kwan in the statement. Using gas emissions from an integrated steel factory will help recirculation of 98 percent of energy, and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Atmosphere for 1 million tons per year.
Pocatau Posco now has a production capacity of 1.8 million tons of slabs and 1.2 million tons of steel plates per year and will double production of up to 6 million tons in total after the completion of the second stage of development. About half of the production will go to the domestic market, while the rest will be exported.
The Associations of Indonesia has currently imported from 35 to 40 percent of the total annual demand in connection with the limited throughput of the local industry. "The presence of PT Krakatau Posco will be a response to the satisfaction of internal demand for steel", as the president and director of Krakatau Steel, Irvan K. Hakim, recently stated.
