US Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman said Ohio federal regulators will support fines against Chinese steel importers that undermine the prices of US steel producers. According to the company fleetguard , lawmakers announced that the US Department of Commerce decided to maintain anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese pipe imports.
The move protects US metallurgists, including Lorain Tubular Operations and Vallourec Star, from serious losses, Brown and Portman said. The senators urged the Department of Commerce to decide in favor of domestic producers of oilfield steel or OCTG.
Brown has brought great news for companies that have facilities in Ohio. This decision makes it clear that countries like China cannot use loopholes to circumvent international law and evade anti-dumping and countervailing duties. He said: "Our metallurgists can compete with anyone in the world, and now we have taken a step towards creating a level playing field and protecting domestic jobs."
Portman said that “This decision is an important step to ensure future competition of American manufactured goods on an equal footing with their global competitors. It is also good news for thousands of American workers who have been threatened with layoffs and reduced social protection if our domestic markets are filled with cheap Chinese goods ".
