Viktor Yanukovych asked for protection from Russia

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, whom the Verkhovna Rada previously announced removed from office of the President of Ukraine, asked the Russian authorities to ensure his personal safety. The Russian authorities complied with Yanukovych's request.

“There are threats of reprisals addressed to me and to my comrades-in-arms. I have to ask the authorities of the Russian Federation to ensure my personal safety from the actions of extremists, ”Viktor Yanukovych said in a statement.
