Great Britain extradited the son of the owner of the ILVA plant Fabio Riva

British authorities have agreed to extradite Fabio Riva, whose family owns the acclaimed ILVA steel mill, to Italy. The Riva family has been accused of an environmental disaster in southern Italy, according to the Rome Press Agency. Fabio Riva is expected to appeal the extradition order. At the same time, the Italian authorities claim that he is guilty of fraud.

A European arrest warrant was issued a month ago against Fabio Riva, the son of the owner of the troubled steelmaker ILVA, and a Londoner. The former executive director of ILVA and ex-deputy chairman of the parent company ILVA from the Riva family is accused of embezzling hundreds of millions of euros from the Italian state by illegally obtaining government export subsidies through the holding company Riva Fire.

Prosecutors from Milan say Fabio Riva, like other Riva Fire executives, is under investigation. These allegations represent in a series of investigations into the financial, business and tax relations of the parent company ILVA of the Riva Group.

Last July, prosecutors in Milan asked the court to indict Rivai's father, former head of ILVA Emilio Riva, of massive tax fraud. Fabio Riva, earlier in January 2013, was arrested in London after two months on the run. The arrest took place as part of a criminal investigation in connection with the scandal over the infliction of irreparable damage to the environment in Taranto by the ILVA metallurgical plant.
