SS Steel opened the first European steel billet plant in Tonga, the oldest industrial area of Dhaka in Bangladesh. SS Steel specializes in high-tech billet production such as the SS Tiger 500W TMT.
Kazi Shaquil, Chairman of SS Steel, stated that “SS Steel must be the market leader in terms of quality, not quantity, which is why an Italian steelmaker was chosen to build and commission the plant.”
Italian Ambassador Giorgio Giuglilmino inaugurated the plant in a ceremony for the corporate company that built the plant in Dhaka. Italy plans to continue partnerships in the development of heavy industry in Bangladesh, the ambassador said.
Bangladesh has the potential to become an economic hub in the region through the development of medium and heavy industries, said Qazi Salahuddin, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation. The official ceremony was also attended by the President of STS Italy, Giorgio Cabai.
SS Steel provides the complete process from the melting of scrap steel in induction furnaces to the production of the final product in rolling mills. SS Steel will provide a wide range of solutions for building contractors and builders.
SS Steel (Pvt) Ltd is located in the heart of Tonga, in an old industrial area where the second generation family-owned steel manufacturing business has been revived. Almost 26 years ago, Kazi Shafi and his two sons started a business expanding their capabilities in all aspects of steel production. Today, they have narrowed their range to focus on producing high quality products that are more in demand in the region.
