Voestalpine, an international steel company based in Linz, Austria, continues its internationalization strategy and opens a new pressure metals plant in East London, South Africa. The factory producing high quality automotive components is an important step in a comprehensive globalization strategy for the automotive sector.
Voestalpine is currently investing over € 100 million in facilities in South Africa as well as factories in China, USA, Romania and Germany. The Voestalpine Group recently set a record in R&D budget of € 140 million to further expand its technology leadership.
The new Voestalpine Stamptec plant in South Africa is located close to the production sites of renowned automotive manufacturers. Initially, the 30 employees at the new location will generate around € 10 million in revenue per year. The product portfolio includes hardened cross members and aluminum components for car doors.
Another, larger manufacturing site will open in Cartersville, Georgia, USA over the next two months, marking the next step in the metal forming strategy for globalization in the automotive sector. The US plant will have 220 employees and will form the backbone of Voestalpine's automotive operations in North America.
Voestalpine is currently considered the most knowledge-intensive industrial company in Austria and in the world. During the fiscal year 2012/13, the Voestalpine Group received 44 percent of its revenues, which were generated only in the automotive industry.
