According to operational data from the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF), Japanese exports of the most common types of metal products fell to 3.3 million tons in January 2014. Thus, the export of steel from Japan has been falling for five months in a row.
The main reason for the decline in exports of rolled metal products in Japan is seen as weak demand from South Korea and Thailand.
The total export proceeds generated by metal products amounted to USD 3 billion 120 million in January 2104, which is 4.7 percent lower than in the previous similar period.
Steel exports to South Korea fell 10 percent to 578,000 tonnes YoY, while shipments to Thailand totaled 464,000 tonnes, down 4.7 percent from the same period.
