In 2013, Russian metallurgical plants increased the production of primary stainless steel by 11.4 percent compared to 2012 to 114 thousand 195 tons. This was reported by the Russian Association "Spetsstal".
The Krasny Oktyabr plant became the leader in the production of stainless steel in the Russian Federation, which accounted for 32.8 percent of the total volume of Russian production. The second place was taken by the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant with a share of 29.2 percent, the third - MZ "Elektrostal" - 12.3 percent. Zlatoust Steel Works - 11 percent and Izhstal - 5.9 percent.
Last year, the production of stainless steel by VMK Krasny Oktyabr increased by 15.6 percent, the Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works - by 21.9 percent and Izhstal - by 14.6 percent. At the same time, MZ Elektrostal reduced the production of stainless steel by 0.6 percent, and the Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant - by 9.4 percent.
One of the most significant events of 2013 in "Spetsstal" called the transfer of the Zlatoust steel plant under the control of the VMK "Krasny Oktyabr". Thus, the Uralvagonzavod group, which controls Krasny Oktyabr, accounted for 43.8 percent of all-Russian stainless steel production, and the Mechel group - 36.3 percent.
