A new long-awaited rolling mill from Siemens Metals Technologies has been commissioned for Kazakh steel producer Evraz Caspian Steel LLC. The rolling mill is part of the new production facility of Evraz-Group in the city of Kostanay. It is designed to produce 450 thousand tons of reinforcing steel per year, intended for the construction industry in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries of Central Asia.
Evraz Caspian Steel is owned by the Russian Evraz Group, an integrated steel and mining company with assets in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. The rolling mill installed by Siemens at its location in the city of Kostanay contains eight rolling stands and six intermediate lines equipped with a quick-change device. End product diameters can be produced in the range of 10 to 40 millimeters. Smaller diameters are produced in two or three-slot mode.
Siemens Metals Technologies' delivery also includes heating ovens, descaling stations, tempering lines, a 78 meter cooling system, a shearing system, as well as picking, weighing, binding and labeling machines.
Siemens also supplied hydraulic systems and water treatment plants. The scope of supply includes a low voltage power distribution system, main and auxiliary drives, motors, and basic automation systems from Siemens, which took responsibility for the supervision, installation and commissioning of the entire equipment complex.
