In 2013, the production of stainless steel used in cable ducts increased in Russia

According to experts of the Special Steels Association, the output of stainless steel in Russia in 2013 increased by 11.4 percent compared to 2012, reaching 114 195 tons.

The leading manufacturer of stainless steel in Russia is VMK Krasny Oktyabr with a share of 32.8 percent of the total. The plant is one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality rolled metal products of special grades of steel used in the automotive and aviation industries, chemical and energy industries.

Chelyabinsk Steel Works with 29.2 percent of the total volume of stainless steel produced in the country is in second place. The enterprise is part of the leading Russian company Mechel and produces a wide range of special steels and corrosion-resistant steels.

MZ Elektrostal is in third position with 12.3 percent. The plant produces stainless steels for the machine-building and chemical industries, aviation and instrument making. The next position is occupied by the Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant with 11.0 percent. The production of stainless products at OJSC Izhstal is 5.9 percent.

Over the past year, these manufacturers have ultimately achieved varying growth rates. VMK Krasny Oktyabr managed to increase production by 15.6 percent. Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works showed an increase of 21.9 percent, and OJSC Izhstal - 14.6 percent. MZ Elektrostal, on the contrary, reduced production by 0.6 percent, while the Zlatoust MZ reduced output by 9.4 percent.

One of the important events of 2013 was that the Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant came under the control of the VMK Krasny Oktyabr. Now the combined group produces 43.8 percent of the total stainless steel production, while Mechel Group only produces 36.3 percent.
