Severstal has announced that it has won a tender for the supply of about 160,000 tonnes of 813 mm diameter pipes for the second string of the South Stream offshore pipeline. The pipes will be manufactured by the Izhora Pipe Plant, which is part of the Russian Metallurgical Division Severstal.
Sergey Toropov, CEO of the Russian division of Severstal, said that “the company's participation in the project is aimed at applying innovations and further developing production using its own facilities throughout the entire production cycle, including steel production. our customers' expectations and that all product deliveries will be completed on time. "
The construction of the second string of the South Stream gas pipeline assumes the supply of 12 meter pipes made from plates of DNV450 SFDU grade with a wall thickness of 39.0. Severstal is a vertically integrated steel company that produces its own raw materials, has its own steel and rolling facilities, which generally provide significant synergies for the company.
Plates, pipes, external and internal coatings manufactured by Severstal have successfully passed all the necessary tests, which confirm their compliance with all technically and technologically complex project requirements. After winning the tender process, Severstal signed a contract for the supply of pipes manufactured by Izhora Pipe Plant for the offshore section of the pipeline system at the Dutch office of South Stream Transport BV in Amsterdam.
Severstal will supply large-diameter pipes for the second string of the South Stream project
