Since Monday, the only official currency in Crimea has been the ruble, according to the Bank of Crimea. This means that scholarships, pensions and salaries for government employees will be paid in rubles.
The hryvnia will remain in circulation until January 1, 2016. All calculations will be carried out in rubles and in case of payment in hryvnia, the Ukrainian currency will be converted into rubles according to a fixed rate set in order to avoid speculation. In all official exchange offices, the hryvnia can be exchanged for rubles only at a fixed rate.
A few days ago, Ukrainian experts said that it would take a whole year for Crimea to transfer settlements to rubles, but a week after the referendum, the Russian ruble becomes the official currency on the peninsula. Only time will show how painless this process will be for the residents of Crimea.
Today in Crimea, the ruble has become the official currency
