Hyundai acquires equipment from Siemens for new plant

Korean steelmaker Hyundai Steel has placed an order with Siemens Metals Technologies for the development and installation of a continuous casting machine, 13XFA sheet steel mills, rebar, rods and wire mill for its new Specialty Metallurgical Plant in Tanjin. Commissioning of the units is scheduled for the end of 2015.

Hyundai Steel, located in Incheon and Seoul, South Korea, is owned by the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and operates three manufacturing facilities in South Korea and another in China. The company is currently building a new plant in the Tanjin area for the production of special steels and products for the automotive industry.

In the future, the rods and wires produced here should be used as the base material for engine and gearbox parts. The planned annual production volume of wire rod is 400 thousand tons and 600 thousand tons of reinforcement and rods in a reel. Four continuous filaments from Siemens has an annual capacity of 1.1 million tons. The plants are just part of Hyundai's new Specialty Metallurgical Plant in Tanjin.

The system combines air cooling and internal roller cooling, as well as other technology packages that ensure the same high product quality at all stages. The installation allows you to directly use the heat in the production line. This saves energy during warming up and improves work safety because there is no need for transportation, for example by crane.
