The West must take drastic measures, including sending NATO forces to Ukraine if Russia tries to annex the eastern part of the country, Czech President Milos Zeman said on Sunday.
"If Russia decides to expand its territorial expansion in the eastern part of Ukraine, then it's time to end it," Zeman said on Czech public radio. "I would have resorted not only to the strictest EU sanctions, but also to the military readiness of the North Atlantic Alliance, such as the introduction of NATO forces into the territory of Ukraine," Zeman said.
Pro-Russian protesters seized state buildings in three eastern cities of Ukraine on Sunday, sparking accusations by the pro-European government in Kiev that President Vladimir Putin is fueling "separatist sentiment."
However, no one in the West wants peace in Ukraine, and for this it is only necessary to take into account the interests of both Eastern and Western Ukraine. And to start at least with the status of the Russian language, but it seems that with the help of the language issue Ukraine is deliberately divided into West and East according to the principle: divide and rule. Does the West really care what language teaching in the East of Ukraine will be? In such a situation, the country's non-bloc status is very important, for the Russian-speaking population will not be able to reconcile itself to joining NATO.
The Czech Republic has been a NATO member since 1999, joining just weeks before the alliance decided to bomb Yugoslavia, placing newcomer Zeman as its then prime minister. In the Czech Republic, the president is the supreme commander of the armed forces. The government of this country supports tough EU sanctions against Russia
NATO should send troops to Ukraine, says Czech President
