ArcelorMittal Poland held an official opening ceremony for a new installation for the production of long rails and welding table in Dбbrowa Gornicza, which is one of three facilities in the world capable of producing 120 meter rails for the rail industry.
To this day, the rolling mill at ArcelorMittal Dбbrowa Gornicza produces 30 meter rails. The project for the production of 120 meters of rails, worth $ 46 million, will contribute to the modernization of Europe's railway infrastructure.
The CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland stated that “the production of long rails is strategically important given the rail investment plans in many countries, including Poland. We are delighted that the plant was opened just a few days before the tenth anniversary of our presence on the Polish market. ArcelorMittal has invested over $ 1.6 billion to modernize its factories in Poland. "
The new unit, in conjunction with the ArcelorMittal Gijon plant in Spain, will supply the rails to the German railway company. Deutsche Bahn agreed this month to supply 129,000 tonnes of rails in 2014. Both sides also clarified the possibility of supplying an additional 129 thousand tons in 2015.
The General Manager of Long Products at ArcelorMittal Europe said “We are very pleased to be working with Deutsche Bahn on this project, which only came about after we completed a major investment in our railway production facilities in Poland.”
Deutsche Bahn invests heavily in its rail network every year. In 2014, they aim to upgrade over 3,000 kilometers of rails, 2,350 turnouts and over two million railroad ties.
