US Steel Corporation (USS) reported earnings and that its earnings were positively impacted by higher prices and economic savings programs. Net income was $ 52 million, or 34 cents per share, in the same period last year, and a loss of $ 73 million, or 51 cents per share, was recorded.
In Slovakia, American Steel Corporation operates in Kosice at US Steel Kosice (USSK), where it was established in 2000, taking over the former VSZ steel works. Currently, USSK conducts operations with its subsidiaries and is one of the largest producers of flat products in Europe, supplying mainly to the automotive, mechanical engineering and electrical industries. The main activity is the production of flat products, spiral welded pipes and radiators.
At the same time, the company warns that operating profit is expected to fall in the current second quarter, because the weather makes it difficult to transport raw materials and export finished goods. The flat products division, which will significantly increase production in the second quarter in terms of output, but will lose value.
