OAO Severstal, one of the world's leading metallurgical and mining companies, has started supplying pipes with a diameter of 813 mm for the offshore section of the South Stream pipeline.
The pipes are manufactured at the Izhora Pipe Plant, which is part of the Russian steel division Severstal. The first consignment, consisting of 12 meter pipes with a 39.0 mm wall, was sent by Severstal's stevedoring company, CJSC Neva-Metall, which is also part of the Russian metallurgical division, which facilitates the transportation of products for the project.
Severstal plans to supply over 40,000 tonnes of pipes by the end of the second quarter. Vitaly Motorin, Director of Pipe Products at Severstal's Russian Metallurgical Division, said that “the close proximity of the Izhora Pipe Plant to sea and river ports, a well-developed rail and road network and our own stevedoring company will enable us to efficiently manage our logistics to meet high standards and complex requirements. project South Stream Transport BV ".
Severstal, having won two tenders held in the first quarter of 2014, will supply about 260 thousand tonnes of 813 mm pipes manufactured at the Izhora Pipe Plant, which are intended for the construction of the first and second strings of the offshore section of the South Stream pipeline system.
