The Bangkok Post reported that Tata Steel (Thailand) is considering opening an international court case if the Commerce Department does not increase anti-dumping tariffs imposed on high-carbon steels from China.
Rajiv Mangal, president and chief executive of Tata Steel, said "TSTH may refer the case to the Central Intellectual Property Office and the International Trade Court after the Commerce Department cut tariffs on Chinese high-carbon rods and wires to 5 percent from 10 percent last month."
The original tariff, which was in effect from August to December last year, was set at 15 percent and therefore TSTH requested an increase in the tariff to 15 percent again.
In addition, Mangal said that on behalf of the company, he asked for an explanation from the Department of Commerce on this issue and is awaiting a response before deciding whether to bring the case to court.
