Russian pig iron exports have grown despite a decrease in supplies to the United States in April

According to government statistics, the export of pig iron from Russia increased significantly in April 2014. Despite the fact that exports to the United States fell within a month.

The export of Russian pig iron ingots amounted to 140 thousand tons in April this year. This is 31.8 percent higher compared to exports in the same month of the previous year. Exports to the United States totaled 30,000 tonnes during the month, accounting for more than one-fifth of Russia's total exports.

However, exports to the United States fell 51.8 percent during the month from the previous year. Exports of Russian pig iron to Taiwan totaled 26,000 tonnes, up 568 percent from exports in the same month a year earlier.

During the first four months of 2014, Russian pig iron exports amounted to 1.22 million tonnes. Total pig iron exports for the January-April period increased by 31.9 percent compared to exports during the corresponding four-month period in 2013.

During this period, pig iron exports to the United States amounted to 699 thousand tons, which is more than half of Russia's total exports. At the same time, Russian pig iron exports to the United States for four months in 2014 increased by more than 396 percent compared to the previous year.
