The latest data from the Metallurgical Service Centers Institute (MSCI) show that shipments of aluminum products from the US and Canada increased during May this year from the same month a year earlier.
Total shipments of aluminum products from various US service centers in May this year were 136,300 tons, up 3 percent from shipments recorded during the same month last year, according to data released by MSCI.
Total aluminum shipments from the United States during the first five months of 2014 amounted to 669,900 tonnes. Shipments during this period were up 8.6 percent from shipments in the corresponding five months in 2013. Current US aluminum stocks at the end of May are at 387,500 tonnes, up 5.3 percent from aluminum stock levels. in May 2013.
According to MSCI, total shipments of Canadian aluminum products through various service centers totaled 14,100 tonnes during May of this year. This is 2.6 lower compared to shipments in May 2013.
Total aluminum shipments from Canada during the first five months of 2014 amounted to 66,900 tons. Deliveries for this period are slightly lower compared to shipments for the same period in 2013. Canada's current aluminum stocks are at 38,700 tonnes at the end of May, up 4 percent from May 2013.
