SSAB has announced that it is going to expand the production capacity of its Montpellier metallurgical plant. The company has already engaged engineering organizations to calculate the requirements for expanding the plant.
The expansion process of the plant will contribute to the possibility of raising the melting and casting temperatures and other technological processes. At present, the production capacity is about 800 thousand tons of finished products per year, together with 400 thousand tons of melting capacity.
After expansion, Montpellier's annual production will increase to 2.1 million tonnes of finished products. SSAB Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Moskalyuk said SSAB Americas is continually re-evaluating opportunities to continue to grow and to support the growing needs of its customers.
He added that the company plans to increase growth in heat-treated plate and plate production. SSAB gained control of Montpellier operations following the acquisition of the former IPSCO Inc in 2008. In 2010, SSAB spent approximately $ 11 million to build a 20,000 square foot research plant. This created jobs in the company for professional engineers.
The Montpellier plant has about 600 employees, of which 100 are private contractors. The expansion process will also increase the number of jobs, their number will be known after the completion of the study. The field of activity of the engineering company will consist of the development of the specification of equipment, infrastructure needs such as transportation capacity, which allows to take into account the needs in the investment area and the loading possibilities.
