Consolidated stainless steel production in the European Union was 710 thousand tonnes in June, an increase of 1 percent YoY, according to a report released in Germany based on data from Damstahl. During this time period, production of stainless steel in Sweden increased by 6 percent and in Slovenia increased by 2 percent compared with the figures for the same period a year earlier. At the same time, stainless steel production in Germany decreased by 20 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to the report, the demand for stainless steel in the first half of 2014 was satisfactory and the demand for stainless steel products from end users will remain high in the second half. Damsthal points out that European actual market demand for cold rolled steel is expected to grow 3 to 4 percent this year.
