According to the latest figures released by the World Steel Association, steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) increased 1.9 percent year on year during the month of May 2014.
The total volume of crude steel production in Belarus slightly decreased by 0.8 percent in May this year to 230 thousand tons compared to 232 thousand tons in May 2013. Kazakhstan produced 310 thousand tons of steel, showing a high growth of 12.6 percent compared to 275 thousand tons of products achieved in May 2013.
Moldova recorded 45 thousand tons of steel during the month. Total crude steel production in Russia increased by 0.6 percent from 6.014 million tonnes in May 2013 to 6.053 million tonnes in May this year.
An improvement was noted in steel production in Ukraine during the month of May this year. Total crude steel production in Ukraine rose 2.2 percent to 2.818 million tonnes in May 2014, compared with an output of 2.756 million tonnes in May last year. At the same time, steel production in Uzbekistan slightly decreased by 0.2 percent during the month of May this year.
The total volume of steel production during the first five months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013 decreased in Belarus by 11.2 percent, in Ukraine by 7.1 percent, and increased in Kazakhstan by 14.5 percent, in Russia by 0 , 3 percent. In Uzbekistan and Moldova, steel production over this period remained unchanged.
