According to the latest statistics released by Brazilian customs, the country's imports of welded steel pipes fell sharply during the month of June this year, compared with imports in the same month a year earlier. However, imports were up from the previous month, the data show.
According to customs, imports of welded pipes in Brazil totaled 8186 tonnes during June, down 26 percent from last June's imports. The country imported 11,054 tons of welded steel pipes in June 2013. However, imports in June 2014 were higher from the previous month, up 13 percent from the month of May this year, when Brazil's imports totaled 7,245 tons.
The largest exporter of welded steel pipes to Brazil during June 2014 was China. The country's imports from China reached 2,347 tons, which is just under one third of Brazil's total imports.
Meanwhile, Brazil's seamless steel pipe imports during June 2014 totaled 7,093 tonnes, a 49 percent decline from imports in the same month last year. In June 2013, the import of seamless pipes in the country totaled 13,973 tons. However, in June of this year, imports jumped by almost 14 percent compared to May this year, when imports totaled 6212 tons.
