Evraz steel output increased by 1.1 percent in the second quarter

Evraz (Evraz) reports that the pace of steel production has changed slightly compared to the previous year, but this did not prevent the increase in production compared to the previous quarter.

The company said the growth was due to improved operations at its plants in South Africa and Russia. The company said that compared to the previous year, steel production in the second quarter decreased by 4.2 percent to 3.9 million tonnes, due to planned repairs using a new hydraulic press . However, output increased 1.1 percent from the previous quarter.

Evraz says steel production at the Russian plant has improved due to less downtime of blast furnaces and completion of converter repairs. The increase in production at South African steel mills is associated with an important event in the introduction of new equipment.

At the same time, the company reported that steel production at its factories in Ukraine and North America slightly decreased due to planned maintenance of equipment. The company's pig iron production increased 0.8 percent to about 3.2 million tonnes from the previous year. This is primarily due to the development of South African production facilities.

Consolidated yields of raw coking coal and coking coal concentrate increased by 6.6 and 3 percent, respectively. The company said this was due to activities at its Raspadskaya mine in Russia. Evraz reports that second-quarter iron ore production in Russia increased by 3 percent compared to the previous quarter due to increased production and processing at Evraz KGOK.
