Taiwan-based CSC leaves prices unchanged for September 2014 shipments

China Steel Corp (CSC), a major Taiwanese manufacturer of carbon flat products, has announced prices for steel plates for September 2014 shipments. The company decided to leave prices for steel sheet unchanged until September due to the lack of stable demand in the existing market. At the same time, CSC announced that the total production of plate products will be reduced by 5 percent due to temporary shutdowns of equipment for replacement.

The base steel sheet prices for September deliveries this year will be around $ 21,400 per tonne. The SS400 /A36 price will continue to remain at $ 20,500 per ton. Steel sheet prices for shipbuilding will remain unchanged at $ 21,400 per tonne.

According to information provided by the company, the third quarter is considered to be a traditionally weak period for the steel industry in the country, which is the main reason why the company kept wholesale prices for September shipments unchanged.

According to analysts, the CSC's decision to leave prices unchanged shows that the market has begun to show signs of stabilization. The company previously cut its prices by 1.64 percent for shipments between July and August.

Customs data show that the company's total sales of carbon steel products in the first half of this year were 4.8 million tonnes. Domestic sales accounted for 64 percent of the company's total sales in the first half of 2014.
