Tissa and Sedgeman are planning to design and build an iron ore processing plant at the Solomon Mines in Western Australia under a joint project with Fortescue Metals to provide AUS $ 64 million for the project. Logging equipment that was previously used on this site will be sent to Russia for sale through the Lesotehnika company.
The future iron ore processing plant plans to have an annual production capacity of about 7.5 million tonnes. This will eliminate the need for an enrichment plant at the Ognekhvostaya mine. Solomon Hub has two mines: Firetail and Royal. The complex also includes three concentrators, two OPFS, a 125 MW power plant, three villages for 3,000 people and runways.
Both Sedgeman and Tissa specialize in coal and materials handling projects. The companies said they are very excited about the opportunity to expand their relationship in the iron ore industry. The iron ore center is expected to produce about 60 million tons per year. The Fire-tail mine was opened in May 2013, and is part of the first stage in the development of the Solomon mines. In the second stage of development, the Royal Mine was opened, which happened in March 2014.
Upon completion of the new plant, Solomon BKP will be the companies' first major joint iron ore plant. Sedgeman CEO Peter Watson said that “Sedgeman & Tissa has a decent track record of coal mining and material handling projects over the past 12 years and we are delighted to have the opportunity to develop this relationship in the iron ore sector.”
