The International Aluminum Institute (IAI) said the global aluminum market showed a slight decline in production. However, the growing demand for aluminum is encouraging, as in June it was close to all historical highs.
IAI data showed that primary aluminum production in June 2014 was around 4,303,000 tonnes and in May it was around 4,331,000 tonnes. Although there has been a slight decrease, there are some improvements in the calculation of this year's key performance indicators compared to last year. This is evidenced by the fact that aluminum production increased in June by 1.8 percent on an annualized basis.
In the month of March 2014, aluminum production was at an all-time high of around 4,406,000 tons. In June, production was up 1.8 percent from 4,224,000 tons last year. China is the main source of global aluminum production, and produced a total of 1.95 million tonnes in June. In China, compared to May, production increased.
This means that China accounts for 45.31 percent of global aluminum production. On an annualized basis, production in China increased 6 percent from 1.840 million tonnes in June 2013. China's unregistered aluminum production is estimated at 250,000 tons.
In June 2014, the production of aluminum in Asian countries, including China, was about 193,000 tons, compared with 203,000 tons produced in May 2014. IAI also noted that manufacturing in the Gulf region also reported strong results. Aluminum production at GCC in June was about 412 thousand tons, an increase of 26 percent from 327 thousand tons in June 2013.
Aluminum production is supported by high demand
