Steel production across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) declined 5.36 percent during the month of June, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association.
Total crude steel production in Belarus fell 3.15 percent in June this year to 215,000 tons from 222,000 tons in May. Kazakhstan produced 335 thousand tonnes of steel, down 3.18 percent from 346 thousand tonnes achieved in May 2014. Moldova produced 45,000 tons of steel in a month. Total crude steel production in Russia fell by almost 1 percent to 5.888 million tonnes this June from 5.947 million tonnes in May.
There was a noticeable drop in steel production during June in Ukraine. Total crude steel production in Ukraine decreased by 9.27 percent to 2.564 million tonnes in June 2014, compared with a yield of 2.826 million tonnes in the previous month. In addition, steel production in Uzbekistan significantly decreased during June of this year, reaching 7.14 percent compared to the previous month.
The total steel production during the first six months of 2014 in various countries in the region was: Belarus (1203 thousand tons), Kazakhstan (1823 thousand tons), Moldova (203 thousand tons), Russia (34 824 thousand tons ) Ukraine (15 473 thousand tons) and Uzbekistan (378 thousand tons).
