According to the latest statistics released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), the country's most sought-after steel products declined during June 2014. However, US steel exports rose substantially during this period.
In general, Japanese exports of metal products in June this year amounted to 3.58 million tons. At the same time, exports decreased by 2.1 percent compared to the same month last year, when Japan exported 3.66 million tons of steel products.
Exports to China amounted to 512 thousand tons during the month of June, which is 5 percent higher than in June of the previous year. Japan exported 2.75 million tons to Asian countries, which is more than 75 percent of the country's total exports during this period. At the same time, Japanese exports to Asia were down 4.8 percent in June 2014 compared with exports in the same month of the previous year.
On the other hand, Japanese steel exports to the United States in June rose more than 18.5 percent to 205,000 tons. The export volume of steel in the United States in June last year amounted to a total of 173 thousand tons.
Total export revenue in June 2014, generated by the sale of steel products, was 332.9 billion yen, up 0.4 percent from revenue generated in the same month last year.
