Tata Steel starts producing the highest quality automotive steels

Tata ensures that its new product has superior strength and unique physical properties when compared to automotive steels from other manufacturers. Tata's new product, the DP1000HY-GI, will help automakers produce components without significant changes to their manufacturing processes.

The firm claims the product will help reduce structural weight by 15 percent of the total weight while maintaining strength. Thus, the material is very well suited for the fabrication of a car crash protection structure. Tata Steel also adds that it is one of the few metallurgical companies that have been able to provide such a high quality product that comes from years of inventive activity.

Tata Steel recently announced that the Odisha project in Kalinganagar will continue to expand the company into flat steel products for the automotive industry with the commissioning of two new units. Each block has a capacity of about 3 million tons per year. The first phase of the Odisha project will be completed at the end of the January-March 2015 quarter.

Construction work at the 6 million tonnes facility is progressing according to plan. The CEO clarified that he is optimistic about the increase in demand for steel in the country, which has taken a strong course towards GDP growth. He expects steel prices to be stable in the current environment.
