The latest statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) show that the export of various types of rebar from the country fell sharply in June 2014.
According to TUIK statistics, the export of fittings during June of this year amounted to 530 thousand tons, which is 24.7 percent lower than the export in the previous month. Turkish rebar exports in May 2014 amounted to 704 thousand tons. During the year, the export of these products from Turkey decreased by 16.5 percent. Exports of rebar during June last year totaled 635 thousand tons.
Rebar exports contributed to total revenue of $ 303 million in June this year, down 24 percent from export revenue in the previous month. According to the Turkish Statistical Office, export prices for rebar have declined slightly over the past month.
The largest destination for Turkish rebar exports was the United Arab Emirates. Imports across the UAE reached 107,392 tons, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the total Turkish rebar exports. In second place was Israel with a total import of 54386 tons.
Turkey's rebar exports to the US dropped significantly, according to industry sources, following a decision by the US Department of Commerce (US DOC) to impose anti-dumping duties on rebar imports from Turkey and Mexico earlier this year.
