Novelis, a leading manufacturer of rolled aluminum products, announced a price increase for automotive sheets and specialty aluminum products in North America. The revised prices will apply for all new orders, added a Novelis spokesman. However, all existing orders are subject to clear agreements and the old price will be retained.
As for automotive products, a decision was made to introduce a price increase of $ 0.06 per pound for 6000-series automotive alloys. The prices of 5000-series automotive alloys will be increased in the same way. On specialty products, 1000-series and 3000-series alloys will be increased by $ 0.05 /lb. The increase of $ 0.03 per pound will apply to 5000-series products. In addition, the price of 6061-series alloys will be increased by $ 0.03 per pound. The rise in prices for automotive products is in addition to the pricing adjustments announced earlier this January.
The company also announced its commitment to the promised new capacity and expansion in the North American region. Two new auto finishing lines have already been commissioned in Oswego, New York. Completion of the third line is expected soon. This is expected to be able to raise the company's capacity in the region to 360 thousand tons per year. A company spokesman also said that the commissioning of finishing lines in Changzhou in China and Nachterstedt in Germany will help achieve a global capacity of up to 900 thousand tons per year by the end of 2015. Novelis is also the world's largest aluminum processor.
