Russian Gazprom is expected to announce an international tender for 1.4 million tonnes of UO pipes to be used for lines 3 and 4 of the South Stream pipeline in November.
Last year, Japan's Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal won an international tender for the supply of about 1.4 million tonnes of UO pipes for the construction of 1 and 2 lines, which received an order for 260,000 tonnes through their agents Sumitomo and Marubeni-Itochu Steel. This time, NSSMC is also expected to participate in the tender.
Despite the fact that the economic sanctions implemented against Russia did not affect the gas industry, the situation remains tense. If the international situation does not deteriorate, Gazprom will hold the tender on schedule.
Last time, in addition to Japanese factories, more than 10 companies participated in the tender, including factories from Russia, India, China and others. However, the factories awarded last year seem to be in an advantageous position this time too, with Eruopipe among the overseas factories in Europe.
Previously, Japanese factories were forced to compete in unfavorable conditions due to the state of the yen against the dollar. However, this time the Japanese factories will be in a better position due to the change in the yen exchange rate. Accordingly, Japanese factories should strive to receive more orders than before.
However, there are concerns about the attitude of international financial institutions towards this tender, because of which it may be postponed.
