SSAB plans to produce steel without CO2 emissions

SSAB, in partnership with LKAB and Vattenfall, has begun work to address the carbon dioxide problem in steel production. The work will convert carbon dioxide emissions into water vapor emissions.

Sweden plans to take the lead in this matter. No other country in Europe has the same capabilities, thanks to the expertise of these three companies and the country's unique natural resources. Martin Lindqvist, President of SSAB, says: “However, success requires strong political will and participation. Our three companies have a clear vision for the future: together we can create a more sustainable future with one of the goals of producing carbon-free steel. ”

Achieving this requires linking steel production, which is already at the highest technological level, access to electricity that is not based on fossil fuels, and high quality iron ore in Europe. Jan Moström, President of LKAB, notes that his company produces iron ore that requires less cost and energy, resulting in lower emissions.
