During the demonstration on the streets of Brussels, representatives of the metallurgical industry tried to convey that steel is the first link in the production supply chain, and industrial production cannot exist without it.
The march was attended by over 15 thousand workers of the ferrous metallurgy sector from all over Europe. It was held under the slogan: "There is no Europe without steel." The marchers demanded concrete action to secure a future for the sector and employment in Europe.
European factories are among the world leaders in terms of efficiency and environmental protection. Their loss will have disastrous consequences not only for the EU economy, but also for the global climate. However, in the emissions trading of the metallurgical industry under the ETS scheme, not only the protection of the environment, but also of jobs must be organized.
The sector now provides jobs for 330 thousand people, the lowest level in the history of the employment sector, which has lost 80 thousand jobs in recent years, and it cannot be said that it will not lose any more in the near future. The demonstrators demanded a competitive foundation for European industry.
