The White House will support the creation of the Southern Gas Corridor

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It provides for the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region to European countries through the territory of Georgia and Turkey, according to the White House.

A statement on the White House website said: “The Southern Gas Corridor offers hope and an opportunity for stability and prosperity for countries like Greece. The country is committed to economic recovery and the United States will advocate policies to encourage and promote economic growth and additional American investment. ”

To achieve these goals, the United States has pledged its support for energy diversification in Greece through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline and the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector, which will reduce Europe's dependence on Russian gas and enhance energy security across the region, according to a White House statement.

At the initial stage, gas will be supplied from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan. Other sources may also be attached to this project at a later stage. As part of the 2nd stage of the Shah Deniz field development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets through the expansion of the Caucasus South Pipeline and the construction of TANAP and TAP.
