Worldsteel presented its statistical yearbook 2016

Worldsteel has announced the publication of the Steel Statistical Yearbook 2016. World crude steel production was 1,620.408 million tonnes in 2015, while Asian crude steel production reached 1,112.872 million tonnes during the year. Crude steel production in other regions is as follows: EU-28 (166.115 million tonnes), other European countries (36.178 million tonnes), CIS (101.552 million tonnes), North America (110.945 million tonnes), South America (43.899 million tonnes) , Africa (13.701 million tonnes), the Middle East (29.429 million tonnes) and Oceania (5.717 million tonnes).

Because of this volume, BOF production totaled 1,201.531 million tonnes during the year. 937.714 million tons of products were produced by the Asian region. The production of crude steel of oxygen converters by other regions is as follows: EU-28 (100.619 million tonnes), other European countries (12.809 million tonnes), the CIS (67.054 million tonnes), North America (41.524 million tonnes), South America (29.886 million tonnes), Africa (5.138 million tonnes), the Middle East (2.407 million tonnes) and Oceania (4.380 million tonnes).

The production of crude steel in electric furnaces amounted to 408.670 million tonnes throughout 2015. The main producers were Asia (173.204 million tonnes), North America (69.421 million tonnes) and the EU-28 (65.375 million tonnes), in other regions of Europe (23.490 million tonnes), the CIS (26.959 million tonnes), South America (13.479 million tonnes) , Africa (8.562 million tonnes), the Middle East (27.022 million tonnes) and Oceania (1.337 million tonnes).

The production of crude steel in open-hearth furnaces amounted to 6.853 million tonnes during the year. The CIS region has provided the full capacity of open-hearth furnaces. The output of Russia amounted to 1.671 million tons, while the output of Ukraine reached 5.181 million tons.
