Ukrainian energy company DTEK, owned by Rinat Akhmetov, announced its intention to purchase 100,000 tons of coal from Poland to fill the shortage of raw materials. DTEK explains that due to low temperatures in December, almost 35 percent more coal was consumed than in the same period last year.
“In order to stabilize electricity production, DTEK decided to purchase an additional consignment of fuel in Poland,” explains the statement published on the group's website. The acquisition is expected by the end of February 2017.
The company says it is making intensive efforts to provide coal for power plants. Supplies of own coal from mines owned by Akhmetov's company have increased by 8 percent since the beginning of the year.
In October, sales of raw materials for DTEK began from the Bogdanka coal mine (Poland), which by the end of the year should provide the Ukrainian company with a total of about 150 thousand tons of raw materials.
