Statistics show that Russia exported 476,000 tons of pig iron in December 2016, down 23.1% from the same period in 2015. In January-December 2016, Russia exported a total of 5.139 million tons of pig iron, which is 3.8% less than in 2015. For two consecutive years, Russian pig iron exports have been more than 5 million tons, but they fell for the first time in the past four years.
Russia exported 2.488 million tonnes of pig iron to the United States, accounting for 48.4% of total exports in 2016, but this volume is down 9.4% from 2015. It is followed by Italy with 627,000 tons, accounting for 12.2% of total exports, up 1.4% year on year. Spain was third with 477,000 tonnes, down 8.9% from 2015, accounting for 9.3% of Russia's total pig iron exports.
