Last year, Belarus exported $ 1 billion worth of military equipment, the State Defense Industry Committee said. Within five years, the cost of military equipment sold abroad by Minsk has doubled.
Such a large-scale export of military products has become possible thanks to constantly expanding markets. The country now works with 52 countries, including the Commonwealth of Independent States, Southeast Asia, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Philippines.
According to the report of the Stockholm Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), summarizing the main types of arms sales in 2012-2016, Belarus is in 18th place among the largest exporters.
Some experts believe that the Institute does not reflect all types of weapons in its report. SIPRI takes into account only classic types of weapons - tanks, airplanes, etc., but not included, a number of categories, such as radar equipment, military electronics, which are very expensive and, in fact, the real volume of Belarusian arms exports in 2016 may be higher.
