World production of direct iron (DRI) in May this year decreased slightly by 0.4% compared to the previous month. Iran ranks first in the world for the production of DRI.
World DRI production during May 2017 was 5.333 million tonnes, down from 5.155 million tonnes in April this year.
According to World Steel, Iran ranks first in DRI production for a month. India and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producers worldwide.
DRI production in Iran in May this year amounted to 1.620 million tons. The country's DRI production rose 3.5% in May from the previous month. During the previous month, the production of DRI in Iran amounted to 1.565 million tons. DRI production in India in May 2017 was 1.270 million tonnes, up 3.5% month-on-month to 1.227 million tonnes. Mexico's DRI output in May this year was 545,000 tonnes, slightly higher than the 527,000 tonnes recorded in April this year.
