Ukrainian farmers have harvested 43.7 million tonnes of grain with an average yield of 3.86 tonnes per hectare this year, the agriculture ministry said on Tuesday. Farmers, as of October 10, dropped 78 percent of the grain from the 14.6 million hectares planted with grain.
The ministry said farmers have completed their grain harvest this year, thrashing a total of 37.3 million tonnes of various crops. Farmers also harvested 5.8 million tons of corn from 1.4 million hectares. This year, the corn harvest area is 4.5 million hectares.
The ministry said the country could harvest up to 63 million tons of grain this year. In 2016, Ukraine harvested a record 66 million tons.
Farmers have already planted 4.9 million hectares for the 2018 wheat harvest. The area under winter wheat will reach 6.1 million hectares. Winter wheat accounts for about 95 percent of the wheat area in Ukraine.
